Welsh Items at Nanuk’s Igloo Custom Jewelry

I believe that I have mentioned before that I offer a Celtic line at Nanuk’s Igloo, but now I will be offering items that are specifically Welsh both online and in the shop.  I am teaming up with my mother, nationally known Welsh Folksinger Jodee James, to incorporate Welsh gifts in addition to the jewelry items.

As of now, Nanuk’s Igloo offers a Welsh Dragon necklace. Quantities are limited at this time, but I hope to be able to offer more necklaces using the Welsh Dragon pendant.  In addition to these necklaces, we will also be selling Welsh T-shirts, Bumper Stickers, Notecards, and other gifts.  Each item is a custom item that will not be found elsewhere.  The notecards are actually made from artwork done by my grandmother Evelyn F. James.  In fact, we will be the only seller of Welsh specific gifts in New Jersey.

June Birthstone Options

I have been doing  a little research once again on birthstones.  Since it is June and I was born in June, I think this is a good place to start.

The standard birthstone we all know for June is the pearl.  As a June birthday, I’ve never been fond of pearls.  I often wondered why other months got such pretty sparkly stones and June got the “pearl”.

I’m happy to report that there are other options.  If you have a June birthday and are looking for something more “you” to wear, take a look at the following:

Emerald

(Swarovski Crystal Emerald and Sterling Silver Earrings.)

Agate

(Black Czech Crystal, Swarovski Pearls, and Black Tree Agate Pendant.)

Chalcedony

(Blue Chalcedony ad Celtic Swirl Bracelet)

Turquoise

(Turquoise and Celtic Accent Earrings.)

Moonstone

(Moonstone and Swarovski Crystal Bracelet)

Cat’s-eye

(Steel Cats Eye Bracelet)

So the next time you’re looking for a birthstone choice that is a bit more modern, fun, or your style, keep in mind that there are other choices that are just as pretty, but that might not be the standard in birthstone jewelry.

Reminder for Upcoming Event

The other day I received a letter from Mona at the Cambrian Heritage Society in Madison, WI.  She received the necklace set that I donated to the upcoming MadCeltFest on June 21.  I just wanted to post a quick reminder to everyone about this important event.

\"Welsh Dragon Necklace\"

This is the necklace that will be auctioned at the upcoming event.  It is made of Swarovski Pearls in two shades of silver and Cubic Zirconia beads in Jet.  The center pendant is a large Welsh Dragon pewter pendant.  The necklace has an adjustable length and measures 18″ at it’s longest.  Retail value for this set (earrings not shown) is approximately $65.

What’s New!

I’ve been putting a lot of work into the business this week.  Earlier in the week, I decided to upgrade to a Yahoo store site so that’s taking some doing, but I think it’s coming along nicely.  In fact, feel free to check it out at http://www.nanuksigloocustomjewelry.com while I work on it.  It’s fully functional right now, but just needs some more items added and to get everything squared away.  The cool part is that I can now do professional email mailings to customers AND can create coupon codes.  Anyone on my mailing list should expect a coupon in the mail within the next couple of weeks for the Winter Sale I have planned.  (Feel free to email me at NanuksIgloo@NanuksIgloo.com  to join the mailing list.)

In addition to that exciting news, I’ve also invested in a lightbox for my pictures.  I decided to go with the EZ Cube because I liked how portable it was.  I know I could’ve made my own, but I fear my creativity extends only to jewelry and not to building things, ha!  The kit showed up yesterday afternoon and I hurried to get it set up so I could try it out.  I’m happy with the results! I only tried it out for about 35 minutes or so last night because I wanted to see what the pictures looked like once they were edited and I couldn’t keep the kit set up since the two resident felines thought the cube would make a great sleeping spot.

This is the kit set up

The improvement is amazing and that’s just after a small amount of playing.  I can’t wait to have the time to dedicate solely to updating all of my pictures.

 As always, thanks for reading!

October Birthstones

I decided to do a little research this month on the October birthstones that are out there.  It’s amazing how many different stones there are to represent each month.  October is no different.  I found this wonderful website with an entire list of October birthstones.

One of the stones representative of October is coral.  I never knew this.  I knew, of course, about Topaz since I have many friends and family members who have October birthdays, but I never knew coral was a possibility.  According to the above website, coral is the ancient Hindu birthstone for the October period.  Of course, I did a little more research to make sure that I wasn’t just following one site’s claim and found the information in many more places

After some more searching, I found out that coral is a pretty neat stone.  Living in Florida, I found one bit of information interesting.  According to one site, coral was once viewed as a protection against “bleeding, evil spirits, and hurricanes.”  Hurricanes!  So that’s why we got hit so hard for those few years…  must’ve been a lack of coral in the waters around Florida.  😉

A couple month’s back I made this necklace with a coral focal bead.  At the time I didn’t know it was nearly as fitting for life in Florida as I do now.  The other beads are red moonstone and white moonstone with silver accents.  This necklace can, of course, be found on my website for purchase.
